Meet Michael Queenstown

Michael

Michael Queenstown (not his real last name) was born in May of 1968 in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of 9 his family moved to the NW Chicago suburbs of Des Plaines, Illinois, where his love of music started to take shape, and by the time he reached the 4th grade, was playing the slide trombone. Maybe it was due to the fact that one of his favorite musicians is Glen Miller (who also was a trombonist), but he'll tell you it was because he wanted to really play the trumpet like his best friend at the time, but the music teacher told him that the trombone or baritone was more suitable for him.

Nonetheless, his love for the Big Bands like Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey and the like started at a very early age. He likes to thank his parents, mostly his father for exposing him to this great music when radio stations still played REAL oldies, and not like today's age where anything 1980's to 1990's is considered "Oldies". Michael remembers in 1981 when he first heard Frank Sinatra's "Theme From New York, New York."

"I just remember listening to this miraculous voice", he said. "I think that's where my love for Sinatra started and I have never looked back." He wanted to know everything about Sinatra. He also found Dean Martin along the way as well as Sammy Davis, Jr. He'll tell you his favorite music comes from that much simpler time.

"I like most any kind of music", he says. "But I won't lie to you, my favorite music comes from that bygone era of the big bands, and the early beginnings of popular music. Hell, I've even been known to like some heavy metal at times!" he laughs. "But I love music, period. And 99% of it is period music!" He is also not shy in telling you there are genres of music he just does not care for at all. "Country Music. Let me clarify that statement." he says."I LOVE the country greats like Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, and all of them. I just was never able to get into today's country music. Most of it sounds like Pop music to me nowadays." He goes on to say, "Don't get me wrong, I love Pop music, it's just that I am very selective when it comes to Country music, if that makes any sense at all."

After High School, Michael gave up playing the trombone after 12 years. Twelve years of playing in concert bands, Jazz Bands, and the like. Picking up a medal here and there in competitions. "My intention was to enter the U.S. Air Force upon completion of High School. They had at the time, and they probably still do, a reputation of having a great band. I wanted to be the next Glen Miller", he laughs. But, he was turned down by the USAF and went out and got a normal blue-collar job. The rest of the story is pretty boring, until he happened to meet DJ Nitrogen-E (not his real name) four years ago, and he never looked back. Now at age 41, Michael, along with DJ Nitrogen-E and DJ Dropout, WAGMRadio.COM was born.

"Look for me to have a lot of fun on the air. I also think there will be plenty of music to satisfy everyone's tastes," he reports. He adds, "I would love it if this music would reach the younger generation as well as the people who actually grew up listening to it as I did. I would love to bring back some memories for people (good ones, I hope), and maybe even create some new ones along the way!"
