Fringe: Season 2; Episode 14: “The Bishop Revival”

The episode begins with a wedding that ends in tragedy as half of the wedding party and guests are suddenly killed by suffocating from the inside out.  Our heroes are called to the scene and are baffled themselves with the unusual circumstances, until Peter discovers a cinnamon smelling candle that may be the cause of the deaths.  While still searching for answers, more deaths occur at a local coffee shop, this time the cinnamon smelling source being a cup of hot tea.

The constant in both of these occurrences was the creepy villain, a mad scientist Nazi.  The Nazi connection may have been strange in any other show, but the geniuses at Fringe made it work.  As the team soon comes to find out, the weaponized toxin that caused the deaths was the finished product of one of Walter’s father’s research projects.  Robert Bishop served as a scientist for the Nazis while also serving as a spy for the Allies.  This connection really hit home for Walter, and he worked with a special fervor to solve this case.

In the end, Walter is the one that twists the toxin to kill the Nazi villain.  It was an unnecessary death, seeing as Peter had saved the day by finding the source of the toxin at the World Tolerance Conference.  This act showed a different side of Walter, one that was willing to go to any lengths to protect his family and their reputation.

This was again, a very good episode.  We got classic Walter moments that every Fringe fan loves, while also giving us a further look into the Bishop family and their relationship.

“The Bishop Revival” was a great episode to lead into next week’s winter finale.  It’s definitely a great time to be a Fringe fan!  Hopefully answers about the alternate reality lie ahead as well. I don’t know about you all, but I can’t wait. You might say I’m sitting on the “fringe” of my seat!!

FRINGE: “WHAT LIES BELOW” (Season 2; Episode 13)

Fringe

Season 2; Episode 13

“What Lies Below”

(Original Air Date: January 21, 2010)

We all know Walter Bishop is brilliant, but coming up with a cure for a 75,000-year-old virus?

Just go with it, I guess!

You get Walter and Astrid in a room together, and who knows what he’ll come up with!

Well, anyway, in this episode, we had a mystery man wandering into a petroleum company, bleeding (some pretty good special effects, I might add) from the nose and turning into that guy made of rocks from Fantastic Four.

So, kiddies, what did we learn from this episode? Without Walter’s awesome science skills, people plagued with an ancient virus would have died, thanks to clueless government agencies.  As Walter pointed out, “I was chairman of biochemistry at Harvard and have little patience for small minded bureaucrats.”  Anyone else reading this besides me wishing Walter was their Dad right now, sane or not?

It was good to see more of Agent Broyles, but what a waste. He needs more to do. We need more episodes with Broyles in it.

And another thing, was it just me, or did it look like for a minute there, Peter was going to lay a big wet one on Olivia, during their little talk about her not telling her sister what was going on: “I thought that was the point of having people who care about you in your life,” he said. “To have someone to talk to when you’re scared.” Right after that little speech was where I would have sworn he would have laid one on her.

Personally, I am going to be keeping a close watch on Walter and Astrid’s relationship. She knows Peter died at some point in the past. “Some things are meant to be left alone,” Walter told her.  Not if Astrid has anything to say about it.

And finally…

Can anyone tell me the name of the classic sci-fi movie Peter was watching on the computer?

Love reading your thoughts and comments as always!!

FRINGE: SEASON 2; EPISODE 12: “JOHARI WINDOW”

FRINGE: SEASON 2; EPISODE 12

“JOHARI WINDOW”

FRINGE

After an attack involving disfigured humans, the Fringe team visits Edina City, a small town in upstate New York, to uncover leads surrounding the bizarre case. When it’s determined that these disfigured people have managed to hide themselves for a while and they’ll do just about anything to keep it that way, the investigation takes an unexpected turn.

The episode begins with 3 state troopers gunned down by some very disfigured men. The team investigates Edina, New York, and there is clearly something wrong. Someone tries to kill Peter and Olivia, and is shot and killed.   It turns out that the townspeople aren’t shapeshifters. They were a victim of a military project called Operation Elephant years ago that left them disfigured.

How did you like the episode?

Fringe Season 2; Episode 10: “Grey Matters”

Fringe, Walter Bishop, Grey Matters

FRINGE

SEASON 2

EPISODE 10

“GREY MATTERS”

Episode 10 proved to be a nice cliff-hanger into the second part of this season, which picks up January 14.

Every episode in this, the sophomore season of Fringe has me excited for what’s to come.

I felt for Walter and the others with the “scars”. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have brain tissue removed or implanted into your head. We learned that Walter had brain tissue that held the information on how to get to the “other universe” removed by William Bell. But someone else already knows this since Olivia was transported there.

The scenes with Walter and Peter just keep getting better. It’s about time these two interacted more like father and son, even though it’s almost certain that Peter is not the Peter of this universe, yet nothing concrete has been established. Peter feeling guilty that he didn’t visit Walter more in the mental institution, Walter brushing it off, probably since he is so guilt ridden over what we, the viewer believes he has done to his son. Peter does seem a more devoted son, and the scene where he thought Walter might die was gut wrenching.

It was heartbreaking to watch the pictures shown to Walter after he was hooked up to the head gear (and his other brain tissue); Peter as a boy, Peter in a casket.  I think most of us are expecting the current Peter to be the one from the other universe. But, then again, nothing is ever as it seems on this show.

Things don’t sound too good in the other universe.  And everyone in this universe has something they probably wished they could get back, including Broyles (maybe he wants his wife and old life back), who told Olivia that she’d made the right decision in letting Newton go in order to save Walter, that it was a rational choice and not an emotional one. “There’s only one Walter Bishop, and we’ll be needing him before this is all over. And don’t be so hard on yourself. We’re going to be needing you, too.”

I know this episode had me on the edge of my seat, and January 14 seems light years away, but best believe I’ll be poised in front of the tube.

Your thoughts on the episode?

comments are always welcome and encouraged!

Fringe- Season 2;Episode 9: “Snakehead”

Fringe: Snakehead, John Noble

FRINGE

SEASON 2; EPISODE 9

“SNAKEHEAD”

Another great episode of Fringe! With seriously freaky creatures. How Bout that opening scene, huh? But, in reality, this episode was more about Walter and Peter than anything else. But the creatures added a nice touch.

Well, another tour-de-force from John Noble (Walter) who really makes the show for me. The whole ensemble is great, but Walter steals the show every week, let’s be honest.  This man can go through every emotion in the book within a few minutes time. The scene in Chinatown, in particular, where Walter can’t remember Peter’s phone number, or the fact that he had the number in his pocket the whole time really broke me up.  It’s plain to see that, despite Walter’s longing to be an independent adult, he is still very much a child inside.  I also love the chemistry between Walter and Astrid and this episode just made me love it even more.

And what’s with Peter knowing all these languages?  And he’s becoming more and more crucial to the cases every week. Good to see he’s not just wasted eye candy. Joshua Jackson is quite the actor.

Let’s not forget the creatures of the week. That was sure an ingenius way of to smuggle drugs. Some other highlights for me in this episode were Walter’s reaction to the drugs in his system after being bitten by one of the creatures, Peter almost having a worm put in him, and Walter puting the tracking device in his neck so Peter can find him.

Your Thoughts??

Fringe Season 2 Episode 8: “August”

Fringe-Season2-ff

FRINGE SEASON 2 EPISODE 8: “AUGUST”

When a rogue Observer kidnaps a young woman, the Fringe team and the other Observers (Yes! There are more than one! Imagine MY shock when I found out) try to figure out why and Walter worries that they’ve come to collect a debt.

The Observer, named August (which leads me to believe there are 12 observers in all, being named after each month of the year) kidnaps  Christine, a young art student, and The Fringe Division is quickly on the case. Especially Peter. If you remember last season in the episode “The Arrival” The Observer first appeared causing Peter to become really interested in joining the Fringe Division.  Walter seemed more secretive than usual in this weeks’ episode since it was The Observer who, if you remember, saved Walter and Peter when their car crashed into a lake… though we all know there’s more to that story.

We also learn that The Observers have been present all throughout time including, but not limited to, the Boston Massacre, the beheading of Marie Antoinette, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.  It would seem they are here to observe disasters and death, and to make sure that these disasters occur as they’re supposed to.

August didn’t exactly kidnap Christine, but saved her from boarding a flight to Rome that eventually crashed, killing everyone on board and The other Observers do not approve and send a hit man to finish the job. Furthermore, we learn that August was present when Christine and her parents were caught in the 1989 earthquake in San Francisco. Her parents died in the quake but Christine survived and August has been watching her ever since.

August seeks out  Walter’s help in order to prevent Christine’s death. He tells Walter that he in particular can help him because he had solved a similar problem. “Not really, I just missed my son,” Walter replies. We did learn after all that Walter made a deal with one of The Observers for Peter; a deal perhaps Walter hasn’t fully lived up to??

Anywho, as we all know, August goes back to Christine and sets her free before he fights the hitman, gets shot just as Olivia and Peter arrive, gives Peter his cool gun and Peter shoots and kills the hitman. August disappears when the other Observers somehow swoop in and pick him up. As August lies in the back seat of the car, he confesses that he loved her and that was why he decided to save her. Now, in some weird Observer “code”, this means Christine deserved to be spared since August gave up his life to save hers, and somehow was worthy of remaining alive. Proving that The Observers do have some capacity of concern in them for earthlings. And, Olivia got to conquer her fear of rollercoasters as two Observers let her have her happy moment. For as they said, “Things are going to get very hard for her after all.

Fringe Season 2;Episode 7 “Of Human Action”

FRINGE

SEASON 2; EPISODE 7

“OF HUMAN ACTION”

Fringe-Season2-ff

Another great episode of “Fringe” with all the twists and the high intensity moments that the show is famous for. And I wouldn’t want it any other way!
Episode seven: “Of Human Action” begins with a hostage situation, a suspected kidnapping that then turns strange when the kidnappers appear to have mind control capabilities. However, this IS Fringe, and as I had figured out after a few scenes, in all actuality the boy named Tyler is actually the kidnapper, just using two patsies to make it look more believable.

Now, the episode takes us back to Massive Dynamic, where Tyler’s Dad is a researcher and as they realize Tyler’s Dad and Massive Dynamic are involved, she of course, in true Nina Sharp fashion, offers any assistance Fringe Division needs.  But, do we ever really know when or not to trust anyone from Massive Dynamic?

Peter is kidnapped by Tyler as he goes on a search to find his mother, who apparently abandoned him and his father when he was young.  And in true Fringe fashion Walter saves the day by discovering a way of shutting down Tyler’s mind and blocking his capabilities.

With Tyler incapacitated all seems right with the world until Nina corresponds with Bell, sending him an email update about how their “Tyler Project” is progressing.  We also see that there are many more versions of “Tyler” and it seems this one malfunctioned. And what is Massive Dynamics fascination with mind control, anyway? I’m Sure we haven’t seen the last of mind control. Or Have we?

I am very excited to see more. How about you?

Until Next Time

FRINGE SEASON 2; EPISODE 6: “EARTHLING”

Fringe-Season2-ff

FRINGE SEASON 2; EPISODE 6: “EARTHLING”

Now that The World Series on Fox is over, we can get back to what really matters: Fringe is back!!
And may I say, what a great way to return!!
When people begin seeing a shadowy figure and find people turned to dust, the Fringe team jumps right in to find answers.  Walter turns into the mad scientist that he is, determined to solve the case.  As it turns out, at the center of the case is a man, wanted by the Russian Government for stealing his ex-cosmonaut brother who is now in a coma.  Inseperably linked, the brother and the shadow man are one in the same.  The shadow sucks all the radiation from the bodies of those that he comes in contact with.  The solution to the formula came too late for the cosmonaut’s brother, but just in time to save a little girl from turning to ash.I thoroughly enjoyed the departmental struggle between the Fringe division and the CIA.  We, the viewer, got a glimpse into Agent Broyle’s life.  I think it showed the viewers more of the human side of him.
As always, in MY opinion, a great episode. Now, I’ve been reading lately about the show being on (if you’ll excuse the expression) the Fringe of possible cancellation since viewership is down from last season. Well, what the hell does FOX expect? Move it from it’s prime slot on Tuesday nights to Thursday? And Fox’s coverage of The World Series didn’t help it either.
Anyway, this is still one of the best shows anywhere on network television, and deserves better.  But that’s just this blogger’s opinion. I’m sure have your own. And I’d like to hear it. As always, your opinions and comments are most welcome and appreciated.
Thanks for reading!

FRINGE SEASON 2; EPISODE 5 “DREAM LOGIC”

FRINGE

SEASON 2

EPISODE 5

“DREAM LOGIC”

FRINGE

SEASON 2; EPISODE 5

“DREAM LOGIC”

Fringe - Dream Logic

As part of Olivia’s rehab, Sam (Bowling Alley Guy) he has her collect business cards from people wearing red, and then pick letters from the cards and play word-jumble and voila! She gets a message she’s been needing. In this case, “You’re gonna be fine,” which is what Charlie told her the first time they met and she was a scared newbie.

Just who the hell is Sam anyway??

The whole storyline with the dual-personality doc and the mind-control-dreams was good. I also wonder how it fits in with the alternate universe. Maybe just the fact that it’s weird and Massive Dynamic has been tracking him for a while.

Speaking of Massive Dynamic, when did they become the good guys? Now it seems like they’re sort of partnering with the Fringe team, but when the show first started, they seemed to be their enemy.  But then again with William bell (Leonard Nimoy) at the helm, I’m not convinced they’re good guys.

We learn a little more about Peter’s childhood as this season is moving along. I know that I came to the conclusion at the end of season 1 that  Peter from this universe died, and Walter crossed over and stole the other Peter and brought him back. This week’s episode seemed to confirm that, as the ending scene had Peter flashing back (via nightmare and talking in his sleep) to a childhood experience, where it appeared that Walter may have taken him.

Maybe Peter was recalling the exact moment when he and Walter traveled from one universe to the other.

Peter also told Olivia that because of his childhood nightmares, Walter had him say a mantra to condition himself not to remember his dreams. So in addition to stealing Peter, maybe Walter was experimenting on him, as he and William Bell did with the other children, including Olivia. Then again, maybe Peter died during one of those experiments, and that’s when Walter stole the other Peter?

Of course, that’s all just conjecture at this point. No sense on getting too far ahead of the story, right?

Stay Tuned, Fringe Freaks!!
